Broken Things

Your eraser is splitting apart, the crevice widening each day as you continue to use it with your math homework. Your pencil clip had broken a week ago but it is still hanging on by a thread. As you continue to do your homework, you unconsciously aggravate the fracture.

You have two options when things are falling apart. You could take action to fix the situation or let entropy to have its way. Or maybe you want to break it off but do not have the courage to do so and allow the situation to hang in a limbo. (Otherwise, you could be like Nearly Headless Nick, who really wants his head to fall off to join the headless ghosts but has no power to change his state at the point of death.)

For the pencil, you finally decide to rise from your seat and search for the roll of clear tape that would bandage the pencil's wound. As for the eraser, to your relief, the piece finally falls off as you are doing your final math problem of the day. All's well that ends well.

October 2019.

Just some late-night thoughts.
